The craft of scoring for film and television is unique skill which harnessed creativity and makes it subservient to the main focus, the visual medium. A properly executed score can take cinematography to new heights and sometimes, in the case of cinematic production disasters such as Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” the music score can save the entire production and turn it into a blockbuster.
In an recent interview Ken Parks explained his scoring process as follows: “I like working closely with the director of a film or TV episode in order to become one with his vision of the project and to make sure the musical elements I bring to the table flows seamlessly with in the production never distracting from the visuals but enhancing them in every way possible. I want to make the audience feel the emotion, the passion, the state of mind of the characters as if the audience was the one going through the scene themselves.”
Ken Parks and his staff of associated engineers and musicians welcome the challenges that every project brings and always looks forward what’s around the corner. As Ken says “It’s always fun getting inside the minds of brilliant screen play writers and directors and accepting the challenges which they bring, for I know that we are all still learning, developing and trying to constantly push the boundaries of what we are capable of achieving. Now with new audio listening mediums such as Dolby’s Atmos 64 channel playback, we can take the audience on a nearly 360 degree ride into a whole new world which we create before their eyes.”
